LEAH MASON APPOINTED PROGRAM SPECIALIST, FRESHMAN STUDIES

Port Charlotte, Fla., (June 30, 2009) – Leah Mason, who began her career at Southwest Florida College in the admissions department a little over a year ago, has been named Program Specialist for Freshman Studies at the Southwest Florida College Port Charlotte campus.

Mason said she enjoyed learning about the students’ intentions for college and hearing about their goals for their future in her first position. “It was my responsibility to interview students and make a recommendation for acceptance,” she said. Now, as Program Specialist for Freshman Studies, she said she plans “to continue connecting with students and helping them succeed throughout their college experience.”

Originally from Ohio, Mason now lives in Fort Myers with her husband. She earned her bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Toledo and is currently a full-time student at Nova Southeastern University where she is pursuing a master’s degree in college student affairs with a focus in conflict resolution.

“Southwest Florida College is like my second home,” Mason said. “It’s like coming to work every day surrounded by my favorite family and friends.”

Mason’s goal in her new position is to make sure that students are receiving the necessary guidance and education they need to become successful graduates of Southwest Florida College.

“College is a great experience . . . whether it’s your first time or you are returning, the knowledge you receive and the friends you make will make an everlasting impression,” she said.
